Back in October of 1999 I flew off to Africa for a three-week adventure. I had planned the trip for months but decided to only arrange my plane tickets before departure to Harare. I just bought the plane tickets before hand and tried to make my way around the country using buses, trains, canoes and hitchhiking.

The highlights from the trip include:

1. Seeing Victoria Falls


2. White water rafting class 5 rapids


3. Hitchhiking 120km to a village called Binga to stay in stilted huts with locals


4. Eating chicken and mopani worms over a small fire pit


5. Getting kicked off a mini bus on the way back and left at the side of a road with a couple other locals. (one a very cool 16 year old school teacher)


6. Taking a chicken bus that was packed ... and yes people had chickens on the bus and a goat on the roof!


7. Doing a 4-day canoe safari. Canoeing with a guide who carried a 44 magnum in his lap just in case the Hippos attacked us. Sleeping in mesh two man tents. Camping on islands while watching lions across the river.


8. The hundreds of very friendly locals, who wanted to share, talk and tell stories.

11. Running in the woods after two rhino’s trying to get a good picture.
